In the meantime Michiel Berger of Netstat fame has built the www.twittergids.nl site. This site keeps track of all kinds of top X lists that are related to twitter. Amongst other things, he has now replaced Jeroen's list with a top 100. You can find it here. http://www.twittergids.nl/top100-updates.html

Nice post! Your list itself illustrates the pro's and con's of lists very well. The main issue with lists is indeed that, while they structure the information in a very concrete way, they are nearly always based on the view of the author. Someone else could end up with a very different list (or different order) for exactly the same thing.

But that's the nice thing about lists and blogging; to create something that represents your thoughts and ideas and that might (not: should) be helpful to others.

I'm glad I inspired you to write this post, Arne. It is true that people adapt their behavior to certain lists. Just think of tennis players like Federer and Nadal talking about the Nr. 1 position of the tennis ranking. The only thing that counts is winning Wimbledon, not being the number one in a specific week (exept, maybe, the last week of the year).
I myself didn't make the Twitter Top-40 (I ended 43rd or something) and in the end it made me glad: it is much more easy to publish a list that does NOT include you, because otherwise people suspect you to publish this list just for your own ego. And egotism is ruining social media indeed.
